Generally, a commercial motor vehicle is one that is used to transport passengers or property for business purposes and meets certain weight or operational requirements. Under federal regulations, many commercial motor vehicles include those with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,001 pounds or more, vehicles designed to transport a specified number of passengers, or vehicles used to transport certain quantities of hazardous materials that require placarding.
