Charlotte, North Carolina (August 01, 2026) – A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Woodlawn Road in southwest Charlotte Thursday morning, according to officials.
The crash happened at approximately 6 a.m. near the intersection of Woodlawn Road and Nations Crossing Road, just east of Interstate 77.
Medic confirmed the pedestrian was transported to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
Following the crash, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department closed eastbound Woodlawn Road traffic toward South Boulevard while officers investigated the scene. Drivers trying to access Interstate 77 were directed to use alternate routes.
Officials said the crash marked the second pedestrian collision reported along the same stretch of Woodlawn Road within a 12-hour period.
Residents and drivers familiar with the area have raised concerns about pedestrian safety, describing the roadway as dangerous.
Charlotte City Council member Dimple Ajmera said pedestrian safety remains a priority through the city’s Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities.
According to city officials, transportation safety improvements completed during fiscal year 2026 include nearly 13 miles of new and upgraded sidewalks, repairs to more than 3 miles of existing sidewalks, and the installation of 11 lighted crosswalk signs designed to alert drivers of pedestrians.
Although the intersection does not currently have planned improvement projects, officials said it has been identified as a problem location within the Vision Zero network.
The circumstances surrounding the pedestrian crash remain under investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Officials have not released additional details or confirmed whether any charges will be filed.
