Fayetteville, North Carolina (August 4, 2026) – A man died following a crash early Tuesday morning in Fayetteville, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
Police said officers observed a vehicle stopped in traffic on Person Street shortly before 3:45 a.m. When the traffic signal turned green, the vehicle did not move, prompting officers to activate emergency lights and conduct a welfare check.
Authorities said the vehicle then drove away at a high rate of speed after officers activated their emergency lights.
A short time later, officers reported seeing the vehicle crash into the roundabout at the intersection of North Cool Spring Street and Person Street.
Officers provided life-saving medical assistance to the driver while waiting for Cumberland County EMS to arrive. Once emergency medical personnel arrived, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the driver as a 43-year-old man.
