Charlotte, North Carolina (September 04, 2026) – A driver was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck on Interstate 485 in west Charlotte, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened at approximately 4:11 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, on the I-485 outer loop near West Boulevard.
According to investigators, a box truck ran off the right side of the interstate and struck a concrete utility access. The truck then came to rest partially in the roadway, facing the opposite direction.
The truck driver exited the vehicle and was standing in the roadway beside the truck when a car passenger car traveling in the right lane struck him.
The Toyota driver pulled over to the left shoulder following the collision, according to troopers.
The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released because the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said officials were still working to notify his next of kin.
The crash resulted in the closure of two outbound lanes of I-485 for several hours Tuesday morning, causing significant traffic delays. The lanes reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
