Charlotte, North Carolina (July 03, 2026) – Authorities confirmed that an 8-year-old child died following a fatal motor vehicle crash on East Independence Boulevard in Charlotte. Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the collision.
Preliminary reports indicate that the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. near the 600 block of East Independence Boulevard. Officers responding to the scene found a heavily damaged 2018 Honda Civic on the north side of the roadway with an unresponsive juvenile inside.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and provided assistance. The child was pronounced dead by MEDIC following the crash. A 32-year-old driver was located near the rear of the vehicle and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
