Brunswick County, North Carolina (August 3 2026) – A woman was killed after a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 17 near Maco Road in Brunswick County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, August 1, on US 17 South near Maco Road.
Troopers said a woman in her 60s was driving a passenger vehicle eastbound on US 17 when she attempted to turn left onto Maco Road and failed to yield. Authorities said the vehicle was then struck by a southbound semi-truck.
The driver of the passenger vehicle died in the crash. Her identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
The semi-truck driver was not reported to have suffered serious injuries.
Following the collision, southbound lanes of US 17 were closed from approximately 3:50 p.m. until 7 p.m. while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the crash scene.
