Charlotte, North Carolina (June 22, 2026) – According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and MEDIC, one person was killed and two others were seriously injured following a wrong-way crash in north Charlotte late Tuesday night.
Preliminary reports indicate that at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers responded to the 5900 block of Statesville Road after receiving reports of a head-on collision involving a Ford Escape and a Toyota Corolla.
Upon arrival, responders found the Ford Escape heavily damaged and its driver unresponsive. The Toyota Corolla also sustained significant damage, and both its driver and passenger suffered serious injuries.
Authorities identified the deceased driver of the Ford as 49-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the car were transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Investigators believe Dixson was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Statesville Road when he collided head-on with the Toyota. Police stated that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. It remains unclear whether impairment played a role for either driver.
The southbound lanes of Statesville Road were temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene.
